Game studio Wecan is bringing the trading card game Tribal Books to the Wax blockchain. They describe it as a free-to-play online digital collectible card game with non-fungible tokens. According to the press release Tribal Books is in the early stages of development, but is coming soon to the Wax blockchain.

The trading card game is all about player-versus-player battles. Each competitor uses cards and ‘magical forces’ to win the match. A central part of Tribal Books is created around the concept of collecting: collecting magical powers and of course the cards themselves.

Before a game starts, the player uses his card collection to create a deck. There are six different rarities. There are 57 common cards, and for example only 11 mythical cards. In total there are 177 different cards available through card packs. In addition gamers will need something called a Tribal Book, to store their magical powers. Both the cards and the books are NFTs.

After every battle, the winner receives knowledge that helps him to improve their Tribal Book. The more magical forces they discovered, the more valuable the book becomes. The player can trade his Tribal Book with all forces tied to it.

More blockchains on the horizon

Even though the developers have only announced Tribal Books for the Wax blockchain, more could be coming. On the official blog they stated that the initial series of Tribal Books NFTs are issued on the Wax blockchain, followed by a statement about bringing the game to multiple blockchains.

“For future releases, the Tribal Books NFT assets may be issued on multiple blockchains”, they wrote. However, the team seems to be pleased with their choice for Wax. They praise the easy accessibility of the project.

Wax and Ethereum

Last week Wax announced an effort to connect their on-chain activity to the decentralized finance movement on the Ethereum blockchain. Traders of digital assets earn WAXP for their activity. The development team of Wax has build a bridge to converts WAXP to WAXE on the Ethereum blockchain. Holders of this ERC20 utility token can stake the token, and earn WAXG rewards. WAXG is a governance token what allows owners to govern the distribution of WAXG.

So far Wax has always positioned itself as a blockchain for digital collectibles. Sure, there are some games, but the biggest noise is happening around collectible trading cards. Quigley wants to link ‘the value created from that activity to Ethereum’. The co-founder of Wax is very bullish on the future of NFTs, which – according to him – will dwarf the $100 billion set by digital downloads in the non-blockchain gaming world.

Wax moving beyond collectibles

The Wax blockchain is very known as the project where you can buy Garbage Pail Kids collectibles. However, slowly more gaming projects are joining as well. With Prospectors they already have one hit game, but there’s more coming. For example, Hodl God is a battle royale game that uses the Wax blockchain. With Dark Country there’s another trading card game as well.
