Stand alongside like-minded individuals and express yourself in the new Metaverse Pride experience in the Sandbox. Three new experiences have been released to celebrate POCs, LGBTQ+ individuals, and all minorities for Pride Month.
The Metaverse Pride is part of a bigger event, the “Sandbox Belonging Week”, containing three custom experiences: the Valley of Belonging, the Metapride, and the World of Woman Museum. Each rewards 50 lucky winners with NFTs.
The Metapride is hosted on the Metapride LAND, a web3 environment where activists from all over the world can share their experiences and help marginalized teens and minorities in the community express themselves.
The Sandbox Belonging Week is segmented as follows:
June 24th to the 27th in The Valley of Belonging: win a People of Crypto Avatar;
June 27th to the 30th in the WoW Museum: Get a picture by the fountain to win the Belonging Crown;
30th of June to the 3rd of July in Metapride: Find the Photobooth and get a picture to win the Progress Flag NFT.
Players getting all three NFTs will qualify for a $SAND price. Although you might be too late to win $SAND in the Sandbox Belonging Week, you can still join in the last events to win free NFTs and have fun.
The main event, starting the 30th of June, will be the first-ever Metaverse Pride Event. Other than 50 lucky winners receiving the free Progress Flag NFT, everyone will be able to express themselves in a safe, loving metaverse experience.
The Valley of Belonging & The Metaverse Pride
The Metaverse Pride will happen in the Valley of Belonging, a new metaverse experience funded by the Sandbox Game Maker Fund.
The Valley of Belonging is developed by Hermit Crab Game Studio in partnership with People of Crypto, a creative and innovation lab dedicated to increasing diversity, participation, and representation in the metaverse.
The experience begins with the player arriving at The Valley of Belonging and discovering that they are going to be hosting a Pride Parade very soon. The player then helps organise the Pride Parade, completing tasks given to them by drag queens.
There are 25 collectible items that the player can find and collect. There are also four major points of interest, and the player can help with the decoration of the city for the event, which changes right in front of their eyes.
“The player will enjoy The Valley of Belonging because it’s a safe space that welcomes and celebrates everyone and their ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identifications. This experience aims to make a movement of change in a space where some people are misrepresented and/or not represented at all, making everyone feel like they belong in the metaverse. The land is colourful, fun, and full of energy, with a unique pink lake, a Pride Parade on the clouds, a rainbow path to guide the player, a parkour area, a playroom, and a giant monument to celebrate LGBTQIA+, people of color, and disabled communities.” — Hermit Crab Game Studio
The Valley of Belonging in the Sandbox features two NPCs who are based on the real-world drag queens KimChi and Asia O’Hara, from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Their visual and narrative concepts aim to represent real-life drag queens.
What is the Sandbox
Built on the Ethereum blockchain (though in the process of migrating to Polygon), The Sandbox is a collection of gaming and social experiences. The Sandbox consists of plots of varying sizes made of voxel-based blocks. Landowners build and customize their own experiences with block editing, hand-crafted assets, and a built-in scripting language. These virtual lands become adventures, virtual shops — whatever their owners imagine and build!
The Sandbox provides free tools for developers and content creators. Using VoxEdit, creators build voxel-based objects for use in-game. Additionally, with the Game Maker users can create all sorts of interactive experiences. The Sandbox continues to announce new partnerships on a regular basis and has already run two alpha tests with play to earn rewards!
