Atari will build an arcade inside the virtual world of Decentraland. In the arcade visitors will be able to play classic Atari games across different floors. In addition Decentraland will organize a game jam to have the community create games. The two companies announced the partnership on Tuesday.
In the arcade visitors will play classic games like Pong, Break Out!, Asteroids, Missile Command and Centipede. Atari has already promised to bring more games to the virtual arcade. In addition the winners from the first 2021 game jam will have their games showcased inside the Atari arcade building.
A team of designers is also working on a selection of wearables based on Atari, for inside the virtual world. This is kind of interesting, because Atari recently partnered with The Fabricant and Enjin for a series of digital fashion items as well.
Details on the Atari arcade are still scarce. However, it doesn’t seem unlikely that the virtual arcade will accept Atari’s very own ATRI token. They launched the token last year as a way to create an open game economy across their ecosystem. Last month they announced a partnership with F1 Delta Time, so why not Decentraland as well?
Decentraland to improve user experience
In their recent end-of-year review the developers behind Decentraland mentioned that they want to improve the user experience and user acquisition. Among those improvements will be a desktop client, native VR support and a full integration of a layer-2 blockchain solution to introduce free and faster transactions. Decentraland is a virtual world build on the Ethereum blockchain. Consumers can buy land within this world, and build anything. Currently ownership over virtual land is highly speculative, and the value of these lands increased significantly over the past year. Decentraland launched in February, and players can now visit by using a web browser on a desktop or laptop.
Within Decentraland people can build all kinds of businesses, including shops for in-game items, art galleries and games. Decentral Games and Metazone are some of the companies that create games within Decentraland. For example, Metazone is selling complete game installations. Landowners can earn money from those creations, while game creators earn a share of the revenue.
