Polygonal Mind Announced Voxel RPG Dethrone

dethrone the sandbox polygonal mind

Development studio Polygonal Mind has announced Dethrone, a fantasy role playing game that will take place in the virtual world of The Sandbox. The developers want to stretch the capabilities of the Sandbox engine. The game stretches across multiple areas as players try to save the world of Bylta from destruction by an ancient god.

Not much is known yet about the world of Bylta. However, an old god seems to have shattered the world and dark forces have taken over. Judging from the first teaser trailer, players will be fighting lots of orcs.

Dethrone is one of the games that received funding from the Sandbox Game Makers Fund. Development teams can acquire funding for their project between five and thirty thousand dollars, paid in the in-game currency SAND. In addition to Dethrone by Polygonal Mind, there are more teams working on big projects. Take for example Planet Rift, which is a community-driven space adventure.

Other projects by Polygonal Mind

The name Polygonal Mind has been hitting the news a lot in the past few days. Earlier this week the team revealed their first Crypto Avatars. These unique digital representations will be usable in multiple virtual worlds, giving players one visual representation in different games. Each of those avatars is an unique digital assets, owned by one person. Orion was the first Crypto Avatar ever created, and sold for 4 thousand dollars. Aurora, the first female avatar, sold for 2250 dollars. These avatars can be used in Decentraland, VR Chat and other virtual reality environments.

To celebrate the release of these first two avatars, the team build a very impressive interactive reveal event inside the virtual world of Decentraland. Reader who are on their laptop or desktop computer can visit the reveal event at the Polygonal Mind parcel.

Dethrone is the first project from Polygonal Mind that takes place inside The Sandbox.

What is The Sandbox?

The Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently in development. The beta test will launch later this year, but before that time there will be one more pre-sale. During this pre-sale gamers, businesses and investors can buy virtual land with a discount. You can register now to make sure you’re not missing out.

The virtual world of The Sandbox consists out of lands, and voxels fill up each of those lands. Visually it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have this Lego-inspired look to them. However, players are able to buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, extensions of actual webshops, a space for social gatherings, and so on.

The Sandbox is providing free tools for developers, gamers and content creators. Creators can use VoxEdit to make objects. In addition the Game Maker allows users to create interactivity on their virtual land. The Sandbox will also create a meta gaming experience. Players can for example do daily quests or weekly quests for their guild. This will earn players SAND, which they can sell or use to buy in-game items. This system is called play-to-earn.
