Axie Infinity Introduces Parts Evolution

Axie Infinity decides to close out the year with a bang, introducing a new Parts Evolution feature, letting players upgrade the various Parts of their Axies. And with materials from releasing Axies required for evolutions, even the lowliest Axie has a part to play in the new ecosystem!

Despite being one of the older games in the web3 space, Axie Infinity continues to evolve and grow. And speaking of evolution, players can now evolve the Parts on their Axies upgrading them to a new level and a new visual look!

Part Evolution

Axies will now have the option to evolve one Part every 10 levels. With the level cap increased to 60, this allows every Axie to potentially evolve all six Parts.

But evolving a Part is not free. Evolving an Axie Part will cost $2 worth of AXS tokens, and 100 Mementos, with the price increasing with each Part evolved on the same Axie. Players can purchase Mementos in the game shop or receive them by releasing Axies into the wild (ie burning the NFTs).

In addition, Mystic, Japanese, Xmas, Summer, Shiny, and Agamogenesis Parts will require Radiant Spirit Shells in order to evolve. Players can buy these in the marketplace, win them through the new Garuda Shrine Shop, and earn them by ascending a Mystic Axie. Materials and Radiant Shells are all ERC-1155 tokens, so they can be freely traded between players.

Part Evolution takes four days, though impatient players can choose to pay double the amount of Mementos materials for an instantaneous evolution.

Evolved Parts are not genetic, so they will not be passed down to any offspring. Every Axie must evolve their Parts independently.

But, as an extra bonus, evolved parts are not only visible in Axie Infinity, but they also show up on your Axies in Project T. So now you can your new evolved Axies to everyone!

For those who are feeling competitive, the first player to have an Axie will all six evolved parts wins a Mystic Axie, and the first 10,000 Axies evolved will be entered into a raffle to win Radiant Shells and Origin Axies!

And while these Parts upgrades are visual only, the team hinted that these evolutions may play a factor in other games in the future. Either way, this new feature is a great incentive for players to burn their Axies. And it creates deflationary pressure on what is generally an inflationary NFT collection!

What is Axie Infinity?

Axie Infinity began as a creature battling and breeding game but has expanded into a larger world. Their original game underwent a major overhaul and is now known as Axie Origin. They also have a land-based game called Homelands currently in alpha testing. Axie Infinity is the name for the larger ecosystem.

In Axie Origin players use a team of three Axie NFTs to battle opponents in Adventure mode (PvE) and the Arena (PvP). Rewards from the Arena include Smooth Love Potions (SLP) and AXS, the governance token for Axie Infinity. Players use SLP to breed new Axies. Parent Axies can only produce offspring a limited number of times. Also, players can attach Runes and Charms found in PvE mode to provide boosts to Axies. Origins runs in seasons with special rewards at the end of each one.

Homelands is a farming and crafting game centered around land plots where players assign their Axies to various tasks. Eventually, these two games will interact in some meaningful way. Axie Infinity also released the first test versions of ‘Project T’, a social world for Axie owners.

Originally on the Ethereum network, Axie Infinity moved to their own Ronin sidechain in 2021. This sidechain is not just for Axie though. Other developers can build on it as well!
