Dark Country Gives Digital Cards A Memory with Spirits

Dark Country spirits trading card game Wax

In the upcoming collectible card game Dark Country the trading cards will be unique because of their history within the game, and the developers call this memory system Spirits. Each card has a chance to get a certain amount of Spirit slots, and filling it up with spirits makes the card unique. Once all spirit slots are occupied, the card gets an unique frame.

A common card is most likely without any spirit slots, even though there’s 25 percent chance for one slot and five percent chance for two of them. These chances increase for rare cards, while epic card also have a five percent chance for three spirit slots. Chances for more slots go up for legendary and mythical cards. Some unique cards will have four slots, but these can’t be obtained from packs from the in-game store.

When you have a card with slots, you need to put a spirit inside. These spirits can in two versions: stat tracking and quests. The Fox
Spirit tracks the number of victories, the Wolf the amount of damage and the Snake the amount of cards killed by that particular card.

In addition there’s the Eagle Spirit based on quests. Legendary and Mythical cards will get a visual upgrade, as the images on the card become animated. The developers of Dark Country have promised to add more spirits to the game in the future.

Likely not a gameplay benefit

Dark Country hasn’t spilled all their beans yet on this topic. They will announce more details on the Spirits, and how to obtain them, in the near future. Currently is seems very likely that we’re talking about a game feature that adds changes to the meta data and visuals of a card, however it won’t affect gameplay and make a card stronger or weaker.

What is Dark Country?

Dark Country is an upcoming collectible card game running on the Wax blockchain, which Immortal Games announced six months ago. They are already selling cards in their store. In terms of game modes Immortal Games promises quite some variety. There will be a classic collectible card game, an auto battler and a ‘living board collectible card game’.

In the third quarter of this year the Ukrainian studio wants to launch a first expansion pack for the card game. After that the studio wants to continue with something they call ‘Co-authorship functionality’, in which gamers can create their own game mechanics. While introducing a new game mode in the beginning of 2021.

The trading card game mixes western movies with elements of the occult. The Chief tried to call upon the ancestral guard, but instead woke an ancient evil. Now there are four groups, with cowboys, criminals, Indians, and undead demons. Players pick one of these groups for their hero powers and build decks with the cards in their inventory.
