Infinite Fleet Adding Mechs As Unit Class

infinite fleet artwork space girl logo

Pixelmatic is going to add mechs to Infinity Fleet as a unit class, bring more dynamic and strategic combat to the battlefield. These mechs benefit the real-time strategy gameplay of Infinite Fleet. In addition certain ships will have weak points on for example their backside or their bottom, promoting flanking and tactical maneuvering during combat.

Any ship with a Hangar Bay will have the ability to carry mechs and bring them to battle. Mechs can serve as bombers or interceptors. They are too agile to be hit by the large weaponry of a capital ship, but point-defense weapons and missiles could do the trick though.

In Infinite Fleet every player will control a fleet of five ships. This fleet consists out of one main command ship and four additional ships. For example, you will control a Centurion class ship, and then four Cruiser ships are added to your fleet. There will be different ships with different advantages, and disadvantages, adding a tactical layer to the fleet formations. In addition there will be differences between the factions: Atrox and USF.

Each spaceship is also a robot

Last month Infinite Fleet released a trailer in which they revealed that each spaceship has an alternative mode which transforms it into a mech or a robot. Details on gameplay features are still scarce, but one can imagine that robot mode adds more firepower and agility, but makes a ship also more vulnerable. Perhaps robot mode will mean something different for each spaceship, supporting the concept of a fleet working together.

Infinite Fleet is a space MMO running on blockchain technology. In this particular case the project uses the layer-2 solution Liquid on the Bitcoin blockchain. This solution allows Pixelmatic to create a cryptocurrency especially for all in-game transactions, while the Liquid solution also stores ownership over in-game assets.

There will only be a limited amount of INF on the market. Players will be able to earn INF by for example doing missions. The developers call this Proof-of-Participation. Of course players could also acquire the cryptocurrency once other players start trading it on an exchange.

What is Infinite Fleet?

In Infinite Fleet the player is a commander within the United Sol Federation Combined Fleet, because of this role players need to defeat an alien threat. Behind every choice are deeper choices, which allow for a narrative driven by the players. As a result the game allows players to build and customize their fleet, secure territories, and move into space. You can play the game alone, but according to the developers co-op gameplay is the best. We don’t know whether the robot spaceships of Infinite Fleet can also combine into a bigger robot.

Pixelmatic is making Infinite Fleet, as they announced in April. Developers from the studio have experience in the strategy genre. They’ve worked on titles like Age of Empires 4, Dawn of War and Homeworld. Samson Mow is heading the studio, as well as blockchain company Blockstream. Not entirely surprising, considering Blockstream is also the company behind the Liquid Network, which they used for the deployment of the INF currency. You can find more details on their website.
