Axie Infinity announced the release of Raylights, their first land-based game for the Axie ecosystem. Available to all landowners, this game is about growing crops, crafting items, and discovering new recipes, creating an aesthetically pleasing space for your Axies!

Axie landowners have been waiting a long time for land gameplay. Well today, the first taste arrived in the form of a mini-game called Axie Infinity: Raylights. The premise behind this game sees Axies as newly created creatures who must discover how to grow and farm plants in order to build their Axie civilization.

choose your minerals wisely!

In Axie Infinity: Raylights, players sow minerals in the ground, up to three layers deep, in order to grow plants. Experimentation with different combinations of minerals may yield new plants!

The game includes ten different types of minerals, but players only have access to the first three when they start. Others are unlocked as the player progresses and makes new discoveries. After sowing minerals, players assign an Axie to work on growing the plant. Once the grow timer completes, the plant will be added to inventory, where it can be placed onto the land plot.

The order of placement of the minerals matters, as does the rarity of the plot. The Axie used to grow the plant doesn’t have any effect on the outcome — for now!

There’s no real goal in the game. This game is simply for player’s enjoyment, though I imagine we’ll see lots of interesting garden designs from the players.

Also, there are two launch competitions that end on October 14th. The first is to see who can unlock the most plants. Once you’re ready to submit your entry, take a screenshot of your plot and post it to Twitter with the hashtag #RaylightsUnlock.

The second contest is an aesthetic competition. Spruce up your plot with plants and post a picture of it on Twitter with the hashtag #RaylightsAesthetic. The submissions will be judged by the AxieArtGallery and the Sky Mavis team for effort, creativity, uniqueness, and balance. The top three finishers for both contests win land items. The deadline for entry submission is 11:30pm EST on the 14th.

The team has additional plans for Raylights, including access for non-landowners, the ability to mint some items into NFTs, and options for the speed or outcome of growing.

What is Axie Infinity?

Axie Infinity is a creature battler and breeding game. Originally on the Ethereum network, Axie Infinity moved to the Ronin sidechain in 2021, and launched a staking system for their AXS governance token. In the game players use a team of three Axie NFTs to battle opponents in Adventure mode (PvE) and the Arena (PvP). Rewards from the Arena include Smooth Love Potions (SLP) and AXS, the governance token for Axie Infinity.

Players use SLP to breed new Axies. Parent Axies can only produce offspring a limited number of times. Also, players can attach Runes and Charms found in PvE mode to provide boosts to Axies. Axie recently rebooted their main game with the launch of Axie Infinity: Origins. They have also added a new growing and decorating mini-game for landowners.
