Bring Out Your Dead! Walking Dead VOX Sale

VOX Walking Dead banner

The latest cross-game collaboration from Gala Labs brings us a new VOX drop, this time themed and paired with The Walking Dead! These VOX can be used in the upcoming Walking Dead: Empires game, and also as part of the in development VOXverse.

This collection features 8,888 unique VOX based on characters from the Walking Dead series. This includes alive characters, dead characters, and even the undead! In addition to those VOX ‘inspired’ by the Walking Dead, some of them will also be Legendary Walking Dead Characters. You too can own a Rick Grimes, or Herschel, or Michonne!

Walking Dead VOX Sale Info

coveted Legendary VOX

The VOX sale is March 28th with a character reveal on April 7th. Though the price of these VOX has not yet been set, the last sales priced VOX at 0.888 ETH each. So I would expect a similar price this time. There is no whitelist for this sale, though in the past, Gala Games has released NFTs in stages throughout the day. I don’t know if they will do that with this drop. However, anyone who owns and runs two or more Founder’s Nodes will be guaranteed the chance to mint one TWD VOX in a pre-sale event.

The initial sale will on the official Gala website and will only accept GALA tokens. All transactions there are through their internal wallet, so if you plan on joining this sale, make sure your funds are transferred beforehand. In addition to GALA, you will also need ETH for the gas fees.

You might expect VOX to function as game avatars, but that is not the case here. Instead, owners place their TWD VOX in their home base to provide special, passive boosts. The bonuses depend on the type of VOX placed. The rarest have unique, thematic benefits. For example, the Daryl Dixon VOX will provide a bonus to all allies when fighting with crossbows!

The Walking Dead: Empires

Walking Dead: Empires base
customizeable base

Walking Dead: Empires is a strategy, base-building, survival game set in the post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead series. Building a home base is of vital importance. With materials scavenged from the remains of civilization, players upgrade, improve and customize their base with structures and decorations. Structures generally provide utility such as healing or crafting. Decorations provide passive bonuses, with higher tier items offering greater bonuses. This sets up a potential game economy based on crafting and selling the wares to other players.

The game features its own token, DeadCoin. Players earn DeadCoin by owning land, defeating walkers, and selling crafted items.

Walking Dead Empires offers multiplayer support though it’s unclear if it will be an MMO. It seems like the game will be more instanced, with each Land offering its own content to whoever adventures there. There will also be contested battlegrounds, rare resources, free to play, and play to earn options. The game world initially encompasses Georgia, with possible expansion to other states in the future.

A playable demo for Walking Dead Empires is expected later this year. Land and crafting station NFTs for Walking Dead: Empires are on sale on the Gala website and on Open Sea.

What are VOX?

VOX are unique, collectible characters. They are part of the Gala Games universe and provide in-game utility, sometimes across multiple games! This latest VOX pairing brings the VOX collections and collaborations to three — Town Star, Mirandus, and now The Walking Dead: Empires.

VOX are designed to be used across games and to provide play to earn utility for their owners. In production now is some sort of passive/idle game for VOX ownere. The team is still discussing whether to have it in Discord or as a web-based interface. Supposedly the idle game will feed into a larger ‘VOXverse’. Will Wright, the creator of The Sims, is on board the VOXverse project as a lead designer. In a recent AMA, Will talked about how he would like the VOX’s activity and history to have a long-term effect. For example, if your VOX was harvesting some wood and had a tree fall on them, they would walk with a limp. Or if someone used their VOX for cooking in one game, then that VOX would have cooking skills in the VOXverse. Keep an eye out for more details about VOXverse in the near future.
