Metakrew NFT Avatars Dropping on Thursday

Metakrew Metakey NFT avatars

Metakey will drop their Metakrew avatars collection on November 18th to all Metakey NFT holders at 10:30PM UTC. These NFT come with a 3D version to use in virtual environments, while the characters will also become playable characters in an upcoming game. Metakey partnered with NASA to also add some very rare traits to the avatars. There are many more plans for the Metakrew.

Down the road the team will airdrop wearables for Decentraland, matching the clothing of your Metakrew avatar. In addition the team will be building the lore of the Metakrew, and in addition dropping art in the process. In addition every Metakrew NFT will become a full VR character rig, allowing the owners to use these as a virtual representation in videos.

Owners of a Metakey NFT will also receive a variety of perks in other blockchain projects. For example, Metakey Holders will receive a special Ethermon, and an exclusive access badge for Habbo Hotel. However, far more ambitious is the partnership with NASA. Not only will Metakey holders receive NASA-branded wearables, but there will also be limited edition merchandise drops. Further down the line there are more plans with the space research organization.

Importance of avatars in the metaverse

When we talk about the metaverse as a unified digital environment, we also need to think about the way we represent ourselves through our avatar. Having a 3D avatar that you can connect to your crypto wallet and use in every virtual world makes sense. However, this requires lots of industry standards, and we’re not there yet.

To some extend our crypto wallets are already a data-driven representation of who we are inside the metaverse. Our wallets reveal how deep our pockets are, but also which DeFi dapps you’ve used. In addition it shows what type of games you like, and where you buy your NFT art. Wallets are like a gateway into someone’s soul, to some extend.

Web domains like .crypto by Unstoppable Domains are a way to have your wallet represented by something similar to an user name. But those domains are ‘just’ a nickname, and we’d also need to connect that nickname to a visual representation. That’s where projects like CryptoAvatars and Genies come into play. These projects allow you to create a visual representation of yourself, which could be exactly like you or something completely different.

A visual representation doesn’t need to look like you. In the NFT space we already see people using for example Avastars as their representation. Especially, WhaleShark has taken this to a next level. He uses his most valuable Avastars character as visual layer during live interviews. These avatars make you recognizable as a particular person in the metaverse, without revealing who you are in real life. Change identity? Then switch wallet, and thus you switch avatar, and therefore your identity will change.
