Gala Games will add another play-to-earn layer to their farming game Town Star by introducing TownCoin. Gamers can earn TownCoin by playing Town Star, and the new token automatically replaces Boxcoin. The introduction of the new token also means that the economy of Town Star will get a complete revamp.
At the moment Town Star has gamers competing in weekly competitions to create the most efficient farms. Collecting points will determine a ranking, and based on that ranking players earn rewards. Just like Town Star became the foundation for NFTs in the Gala Games ecosystem, the game also becomes a blueprint for play-to-earn economies.
Gala Games expects that the new play-to-earn economy with the TownCoin will attract many new players. In addition it will become the ‘economic basis for play-to-earn reward models in future Gala Games titles’.
Gala Games didn’t provide a launch date for TownCoin yet, but stated that Town Star will get its revamp ‘quicker than you may think’.
What does this mean for GALA
Of course we don’t know all the details yet, so this is mere speculation. But Gala Games is much more than just Town Star. Within the Gala Games ecosystem gamers can use GALA for purchases in a multitude of games, and there are likely many more games coming. GALA will likely become a main currency for all NFT purchases in the wider Gala Games ecosystem. That’s very similar to how the token works right now.
With the introduction of TownCoin, the first in-game currency in the Gala Games ecosystem, we will likely see GALA becoming a main trading pair in a decentralized exchange. Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if Gala Games will open its own DEX where gamers can trade their in-game earnings from one game, with the tokens from another game. Within this DeFi ecosystem the GALA token will be the main token. Again, it’s all speculation, but that would make the most sense to me.
The GALA token has had quite a boost in the past week. The token value increased from $0.021 to an all-time high of $0.135. Currently GALA has a value of $0.111, according to data from DappRadar.
What is Town Star?
Town Star is a competitive farming game from one of the co-founders of Zynga, the company behind Farmville. They built the game on Gala’s own network, which utilizes the Ethereum blockchain. Players need to grow crops, gather resources and create materials to build even more buildings. As a result a small farm can grow into a town full of activity. Anybody can play Town Star in their desktop browser on the Gala Games website. Just make sure your ad blocker has been turned off.
What’s interesting about Town Star, is that the game is very competitive. Each round normally takes one week, and that means that players have one week to optimize their farm and earn the most points. Only the top players get rewarded. These rewards are normally GALA tokens, even though they’ve had some alternative prizes as well. These GALA tokens have real value, and can be used to buy NFTs. NFT buildings can help players to store more resources or otherwise improve their production flow.
