In an unexpected move, Gods Unchained announced a major update to their online, trading card game. Game update 0.39 brings a number of bugfixes and user interface improvements, but coming as a surprise to most players are some sweeping changes to the God Powers.
Though Immutable announced the God Power changes some time ago, they never mentioned a release date. Many players have been hoping for a balance patch to shake up the current, War dominant meta-game. Though this isn’t quite the balance patch most would expect, changing the God Powers for all of the Gods will certainly shake up the meta.
Each God now has only three powers to choose from. A few powers remain the same, while many have changed. In addition the developers have removed several old God Powers and replaced them with entirely new powers. Gone are Chosen Visions, Enrage, Soul Burn, and Forage. Furthermore, Blitz no longer grants bonus power, Animal Bond summons only Badgers, and Clear Mind no longer offers protection. What is the world coming to?!
Even though a couple of my favorite powers are gone, this is a much needed change for Gods Unchained. The tribal synergies of Selena’s Lead and Valka’s Presence should make for some interesting deck construction. Overall, it’s great to see Gods Unchained try to get out of their rut.
In addition, Gods Unchained also added all of the new cards from the upcoming Divine Order set into the game. No, you can’t buy the cards yet. But, you can play with them in-game through a random draw or delve effect. I’ll bet that Jason is a popular card right now!

What is Gods Unchained?
Gods Unchained is a collectible card game built on the Ethereum blockchain, that uses the Immutable X layer-2 solution. The blockchain stores all ownership of the cards, giving players full ownership over their own set of cards. Players earn digital cards by playing the game. When they have two identical cards they can mint these into one blockchain-based card. We call these cards non-fungible tokens, and the owners can trade, sell, or use them in the game itself.
Future game mechanics will allow users to create limited edition cards from older cards, making existing cards more rare. In addition Gods Unchained is free-to-play. Players earn cards by being active players. True play-to-earn mechanics there!
