The trading card game Splinterlands overhauled their competitive Guild Brawls mode today with the introduction of a Guild Store, Barracks and new Brawl-specific Gladiator cards. The update adds a completely new layer to the original Guild Brawls, and the developers will add SPS token rewards in the near future.

For Splinterlands players Brawls 2.0 means a major departure from the old ways. This improved guild gameplay mode really puts focus on guild-based competitive gameplay. With Brawl 2.0 a new guild currency enters to scene as well, and they named it Merits. In addition there will be a new type of pack, the Gladius Cases. In these packs players can find Gladiators, which can only be used in Guild Brawls and can only be purchased using Merits.

Guild Brawls 2.0 will also get the SPS token treatment. The newly launched governance token for Splinterlands will be a reward in the guild-based game mode. According to the whitepaper, the team has allocated 2,5 million SPS per month. At the current exchange rate of $0,40, that would be $1 million in prize money each month!

We can imagine that active players are excited about seeing SPS join the reward pool.

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a trading card game that started on the Steem blockchain as Steemmonsters. However, over time the project changed names. Now gamers can play the game on desktop and mobile devices, mainly using the Hive blockchain. Thanks to an intelligent functionality, cards and tokens can also be traded on the Ethereum blockchain and on Wax. Splinterlands now also has a governance token, called SPS.

Splinterlands allows anybody to play and earn cards and other resources. Players need to create a set of cards to defeat their opponent. Cards come in different rarities with seven different stats. In addition these cards have abilities and come from seven factions. The way cards work together is dependent on all these different attributes.

Players earn cards by winning matches. They can combine cards to gain levels. After that you can sell cards on the open marketplace for cryptocurrencies, or lease them to other players. The most rare cards are wanted assets, especially when there are tournaments. The ability to rent Splinterlands cards will certainly have an impact here!
