Next week will be big for everybody involved in The Sandbox, as the team will organize the first land sale involving Skybound Entertainment and their hit comic book series The Walking Dead. Starting Thursday 26th of August there will be sales events for four weeks.
Each week during the sales events, The Sandbox and Skybound will offer one new hero, equipment, and large prop bundled with the premium land parcels. So far Negan, Rick and Glenn have been confirmed in the announcement post, while they revealed Michonne earlier this year.
Skybound and The Walking Dead will have their own gigantic 24×24 estate, and around it gamers can acquire big estates themselves. If you want to buy one of the gigantic estates next to The Walking Dead, you will need to wait until the fourth wave approximately one month from now.
Land sale details
Those who are interested in buying land, need to sign up before the sale. The Sandbox will close the account creation option during the sale. A piece of land will cost 1,011 SAND, while a premium land will go for 4,683 SAND. At the time of writing 1 SAND token costs $0,60. This would put a normal land around $600 and a premium land at approximately $3,000.
Interestingly, estates will be auctioned through a Dutch auction. This means that The Sandbox will list them on OpenSea at a high price, and then the price will drop over a 24 hour time period. When someone pulls the trigger, they are also immediately the winner of the auction.
Each wave will have a theme:
- The Prison – One of the first major locations in the famous TV series
- The Commonwealth – A major location in the comic book series, not known from the TV series
- Alexandria Safe-zone – A crucial location throughout the story of both the comic books and the TV series
- They didn’t reveal anything yet… my guess: Hilltop. But it would be amazing if they’d go for an overrun Atlanta.
What is The Sandbox?
The Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently in development. The virtual world of The Sandbox consists out of lands, and voxels fill up each of those lands. Visually it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have this Lego-inspired look to them. However, players are able to buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, extensions of actual webshops, a space for social gatherings, and so on.
The Sandbox is providing free tools for developers, gamers and content creators. Creators can use VoxEdit to make objects. In addition the Game Maker allows users to create interactivity on their virtual land. The Sandbox will also create a meta gaming experience. Players can for example do daily quests or weekly quests for their guild. This will earn players SAND, which they can sell or use to buy in-game items or virtual land.
