Sky Mavis is still working on and investigating the opportunity to introduce a crafting system into Axie Infinity. Sky Mavis co-founder Jihoz posted on Twitter that the team ‘knows that it’s important’. Crafting would allow players to combine assets into something new, and often better.
The team talked about crafting extensively in a 3-year old blog post. In the post the team suggested that NFTs from other ecosystem could be integrated into the Axie universe. Crafting would also provide a progression mechanic, while crafting would also reduce NFT pollution in the ecosystem. In the blog post the team identified Axies, Adventure Mode item drops, land gameplay item spawns, and NFTs from other games as potential ingredients for the crafting system.
Renewed talk about crafting obviously gets the community excited, as it would introduce another economical layer to the already powerful play-to-earn game. Right now players earn SLP tokens, while the AXS governance token will gain utility through staking mechanisms soon.

Card upgrades incoming
Last week we already posted about card upgrades coming to Axie Infinity. A complete new battle system needs to introduce the ability to upgrade or level up cards. The exact mechanics are still a bit of a mystery, but it’s coming for sure. However, we do know that the card upgrades will happen through in-game drops.

What is Axie Infinity again?
Let’s quickly talk a bit about Axie Infinity. The tactical battle game uses its own, native Ronin sidechain. In the game players need to use 3 Axie NFTs to battle opponents and earn Smooth Love Potions (SLP). Players need to use SLP to breed new Axies. In addition parent Axies can only breed children a limited amount of times. SLP has a demand, while the floor price for an Axie NFT is right now more than $200. In short, you need three $200 Axies to play and earn SLP tokens.
