Bullish on Sorare as Mainstream Will Come

sorare fantasy football

Personally I expect lots of upside for fantasy football game Sorare, which is now preparing its moves into the mainstream. With the launch of Sorare on their own custom scaling solution, the platform presumably is ready to welcome the next major wave of players.

Aside from an occasional headline in the media, Sorare has never done any marketing. At a rumored $3,5 billion valuation I expect Sorare to make big moves in the second half of 2021 and especially in 2022. There are a couple of puzzle pieces that need to fall in to place, and it needs to be a priority to develop a mobile-native smartphone app for iOS and Android. Right now Sorare works from any browser, but a native app would add a lot of value.

In the fantasy football game you can find cards of four different rarities. The grey ones are common ones, without limitations and not stored on the blockchain. Sorare really comes to life when you start buying cards. The price of the red, rare cards start at a few dollars all the way up to thousands of dollars. Pricing depends on the player, the player’s performance on the pitch and perhaps transfer rumors or player injuries.

Every season every players gets a maximum of 100 rare cards, 10 blue super rare cards and 1 brown/golden unique card. At the moment there aren’t many player cards that reach 100 cards per season, but as more people join Sorare demand will increase. At that point the 100-card scarcity of a simple rare card will start to play a role. This is even more the case for super rare cards.

Sorare has never done any serious marketing, aside from the community-powered referral links. Now that their product can handle the next wave of active players, it’s time to get the marketing engine working. They have famous footballers as investors, supposedly will receive a $532 million investment, and have a platform that taps into the most popular sport in the world. Enough reasons to be bullish on Sorare.

Making money in Sorare

I’ve written a play-to-earn guide on Sorare in the past, but would like to add some perspective to it. Earning ETH through Sorare isn’t done simply by buying some cards. You need to investigate time and effort. Players that have injuries or make a transfer, can have a strong influence on your ability to earn points. It’s very important to find players that always play in their teams, because only then you will receive guaranteed points. From an investment perspective you can buy young talents or substitutes, hoping that they will shine in future seasons.

The fact is, making money in Sorare isn’t really possible without investing. Sure, you can win new common cards using your common card draft. Keep playing for many weeks, winning cards every week, in an effort to become a dominant force in the Rookie League. Because only the top 3 in the Rookie League will win rare cards. You will need 5 rare cards to be of any influence in Division 4, but I’d advise anyone to at least acquire 10 cards. This will give you flexibility to alter your team according to the game week. Without investing, this process will take months if not years.

Right now it’s save to say that a 1,000 EUR investment would be the minimum required to be a serious contender in Division 4. This will allow you to start earning ETH rewards or perhaps occasionally some new cards. Winning ETH rewards half of the time, would earn you approximately 600 up to 800 EUR over a year. So if you’re a serious player, do you research and acquire the right players, you could make your money back after approximately 18 months. In that case we’d not be counting card rewards, which would speed up the process. However, what you do with your earnings is even more important. Do you cash out? Or invest in better cards? That’s up to you of course.

How to play Sorare

You can play Sorare for free, but that takes away lots of the excitement to be fair. You need to purchase collectible player cards, and the players on these cards will become your team. Each game week you select the players, each represented by an NFT card, of which you think they will perform best.

For every game week managers will need to select a team from the player card collection. They will need one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder, one attacker and an extra field player. Players earn points based on the real-life performance of those players. Therefore players that play regularly, are active in winning team, hardly make mistakes, and score a lot of goals, are generally valuable. Each card can only be used once during a game week, but if you have enough cards you can join in multiple leagues.

If you make enough points, you will earn some ETH. Are you among the best? Then you will receive a free card, which are much more valuable. Learn more on how to play and earn in Sorare here, or sign up for the game here.
