What are the play-to-earn games to keep your eyes on this July? Two years ago there were a handful of development groups actively creating blockchain-powered games, but now there are all kinds of play-to-earn games to follow. To help you filter through the noise, we’ll help you focus a bit. We publish a monthly article highlighting some of the best play-to-earn projects and blockchain games to watch, and these are the games for July.
This list is not about game launches, but about what’s trending or still in development. The reasons for mentioning these games in this article will be diverse, ranging from good earning opportunities to interesting investments, all the way to simply ‘this game looks dope as f***’. What ever the reason, we will explain why these play-to-earn games are part of our July selection. Let’s go!
Starting this July Splinterlands will begin the distribution of their SPS governance token on Binance Smart Chain. Gamers can earn SPS for holding virtual land (gameplay will come later this year) and owning lots of trading cards. Furthermore there are rewards for active players. The entire distribution will take 5 years and 5 months, but the first steps of integrating SPS into the Splinterlands ecosystem will begin this month. – Play here
What is Aavegotchi? A game or a DeFi product? It’s actually a bit of both, but their upcoming land sale and additional MMO-inspired gameplay, sure makes it feel more like a game. There’s no official data yet for the first REALM presale, but two presales will take place in Q3 2021. That makes July potentially an important month for Aavegotchi and the Gotchiverse Realm. Since its announcement we haven’t written about Illuvium anymore. Illuvium is a new upcoming role playing game that combines yield farming, non-fungible tokens, and strategy gameplay with monster catching. They will release a first version of Illuvium somewhere in Q3 2021. Details are still a bit scarce. Even though the presale or game release probably won’t happen this July, it’s safe to assume that we can expect lots of news about Illuvium.
Cometh is a bit of a favorite here, as this yield farming combines combines space gameplay with DeFi elements. It’s this blend that makes Cometh an interesting product. Enough reason to get excited about a $150,000 esports tournament, which starts on July 10th. Furthermore you can now buy a $10 spaceship to join in the fun. This would be a introduction ship, but nonetheless a cool way to get involved. Get your M.U.L.E.
According to some AMA information, the new racing game joining the Animoca portfolio will be eRacing 2. Details are scarce, even though Animoca has already shown some of the vehicles for the racing game. They also promised to release their racing game in to beta this summer. However, we’re still waiting for an official announcement and exact dates. Supposedly the game will be called eRacing 2. — More info about REVV ecosystem
Guild of Guardians is an upcoming mobile action role playing game. In June they already sold their guilds and legendary heroes, so we’re now waiting for the epic heroes to drop. However, first they will mint the NFTs from the previous sale. This will also mean that players can sell and trade their heroes. It will be interesting to see what will happen. As soon as minting took place, they will start preparing for the second NFT sale. — Register here
The Sandbox is right now in the middle of their Summer Jam land sales. The first wave sold out in a record of 3 seconds. For a period of five weeks they will have similar weekly sales events, and each week there will be new partners. Not only is virtual land in high demand, it will also be interesting to see the type of partners The Sandbox will team up with. Gamers who own land, will be able to join the upcoming closed beta (Season 0) and can create their own games, attractions, or expositions within the virtual world. There are many trading card games out there, but we still consider Gods Unchained one of the leaders in this space. The game will now renovate its economics with the introduction of the GODS token. This July we expect a lot more details about the distribution, as they will publish the whitepaper. Furthermore, it seems likely that Immutable will announce a presale. GODS will add an extra play-to-earn layer to the trading card game, while also adding community governance to the mix. – Learn more here
A lot of things are coming for Axie Infinity as their team is building. We already mentioned them in our June list. That month they exceeded $100 million in trading volume, and most likely July will set a new record. However, there’s a lot of stuff on their road map as well. In Q3 2021 they will launch AXS staking. Even though a closed alpha for land gameplay isn’t scheduled before Q4 2021, perhaps we will learn some more news. This month VulcanVerse will experience a major development upgrade, as the virtual world annex MMORPG will move into beta. In this virtual world players can for example own land, build on that land, create quests, and battle with enemies. In addition they can earn, stake and use PYR tokens. The beta will officially launch on July 25th. While the price of virtual land in the game’s universe has been increasing at least 10x since the presale late last year. – Learn more about VulcanVerse
