Sorare has signed an agreement with the German football federation DFB to add the players of Die Mannschaft, the German national team, to the fantasy football game. Limited edition football cards are available through auctions now, and can be used in their weekly fantasy football game with real prizes.
The German national football team, known by fans as Die Mannschaft, is the second national team to sign an agreement with Sorare. Last week France, also home to the company behind Sorare, made their debut. Normally Sorare signs agreements with club teams or national competitions, so signing deal with national federations adds another layer of collectibles to the Sorare fantasy football ecosystem.
The deal with the DFB is interesting, because Sorare doesn’t have many licenses in the German football league yet. Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, but Schalke 04 relegated this year. Clubs like Dortmund, Leipzig and Wolfsburg are still missing in action. Perhaps this deal with the DFB opens doors to add the rest of the Bundesliga to the Sorare ecosystem.
What is Sorare?
Sorare is a fantasy football game powered by blockchain technology. The project also has support from game publisher Ubisoft through the company’s entrepreneurs lab. The fantasy football game is enjoying lots of hype in recent months. Consistently the game is among the most popular applications on the Ethereum blockchain. Sorare is popular thanks to its mainstream appeal and the fact that it allows players to earn money and extra playing cards.
Blockchain technology introduces actual scarcity to digital cards, so these have a limited supply. Players can use the cards they’ve bought to create a fantasy team. Each card represents a real player. Based on the performance of that player on the actual pitch, the card holders will earn points. Every week the teams with the most points will earn new cards as a reward. The cheapest cards generally sell for a couple of dollars, while the most wanted ones go for well over a thousand dollars a piece. Join the game!
For every game week managers will need to select a team from the player card collection. They will need one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder, one attacker and an extra field player. Players earn points based on the real-life performance of those players. Therefore players that play regularly, are active in winning team, hardly make mistakes, and score a lot of goals, are generally valuable. Players can only use each card once during a game week, but if you have enough cards you can join in multiple leagues.
