Clube Atlético Mineiro joined the fantasy football game Sorare as the first Brazilian football club on the platform. That makes CAM the 135th club on the fantatasy football platform, and according to Sorare’s CEO Nicolas Julia ‘many more are coming soon’.
Obviously it’s within the lines of expectation that more Brazilian clubs will follow. Think about legendary names like Flamengo, Vasco da Gama, Sao Paulo and Corinthians. The addition of Brazilian clubs to the fantasy football game doesn’t only offer Brazilian football fans options, but also allows managers from other countries to scout for upcoming world class talent.
For decades Brazil has been a breeding ground for high profile football talent, no matter whether you’re talking about Pele, Romario da Souza Faria, the real Ronaldo or Roberto Carlos. Furthermore modern stars like Neymar, Roberto Firmino, and Gabriel Jesus gained the spotlight in recent years. Some of these Brazilian players, like Firmino and Neymar, are already available on Sorare.
When it comes to Clube Atlético Mineiro, there’s one name that will ring a bell: Givanildo Vieira de Sousa, better known as Hulk. Not because of the Marvel superhero, but because he already had a big career in Europe and Asia. He got his nickname based on his impressive physique.
Sorare keeps adding clubs
Sorare has recently added five Italian clubs to their portfolio, while they also announced to be covering national teams. They now have 10 clubs from the Serie A in their fantasy football game. That means that now approximately half of the league has signed up with the fantasy football game. While the Serie A is being signed on club basis, other leagues have joined the platform as a whole. Think about the Dutch Eredivisie, the J-League or the Major League Soccer.
One competition that’s really missing, is the Premier League. Clubs from the Premier League are signed on an individual basis. For now for example West Ham United and Liverpool joined the blockchain-powered fantasy football game. However, major clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur still didn’t join the fun.
How to play Sorare
You can play Sorare for free, but that takes away lots of the excitement to be fair. You need to purchase collectible player cards, and the players on these cards will become your team. Each game week you select the players, each represented by an NFT card, of which you think they will perform best.
For every game week managers will need to select a team from the player card collection. They will need one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder, one attacker and an extra field player. Players earn points based on the real-life performance of those players. Therefore players that play regularly, are active in winning team, hardly make mistakes, and score a lot of goals, are generally valuable. Each card can only be used once during a game week, but if you have enough cards you can join in multiple leagues.
