An early alpha version of Chainmonsters is now available for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac to those who pre-ordered the role playing game. Players need to redeem their Alpha Access NFT on the Flow blockchain, which will give them the Kickstarter Badge in return. This badge grants players access to the alpha test.

This early version of the game features a bit of PVE combat, and three quests. Gamers who’ve played earlier version of the game, will notice that this latest version has a lot more detail. In addition the pixelated characters are now 3D instead of flat 2D characters.

Gamers interested in testing Chainmonsters, can buy Alpha Access for $30 from their store. They promise a total of 25 exclusive NFTs that can only be obtained during the alpha. To earn these, you do need to actively play and test the role playing game.

Currently the Chainmonsters alpha is still running on the Flow testnet. After approximately two weeks the game will move to mainnet. All progress made during on testnet will be wiped. Once the game launches its alpha on mainnet, all progress will be saved. This means that players actually get to keep their quest rewards forever.

What is Chainmonsters?

Chainmonsters is a massively multiplayer online role playing game inspired by classic games like The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon. However, players will be competing against each other. Every player is an agent working for a corporation. There’s a mysterious disease that makes all creatures more aggressive, and there’s a weird crystal in the world. Guess who needs to find out? But can players trust the corporation? Who knows.

Players will need to acquire all kinds of little monsters. Some of them can only be found in certain regions, others only for a limited time. These monsters come from different elements, nine in total. These are generally home to a certain island or regions: pyro, hydro, nature, electro, air, cryo, geo and crystal.

Each of those mons has several basic attributes: health points (HP), attack, defense, elemental attack, elemental defense, speed, and stamina points (SP). In addition each mon has individual values for each stats, which means that mons can have different stats even though they look the same.

On top of that there are traits. Each monster has up to two traits. Most of them start with one and will learn a second one as they level up. For example, arcane intellect increase the critical hit chance, while haste increases the speed gain on a level-up. There are also traits that increase the attack power, while others decrease certain stats.

Battles in Chainmonsters are turn-based. While classic monster-catching games offer one-versus-one battles, Chainmonsters gives us 2 vs 2. This allows players to chain and combine attacks, creating strong elemental reactions.

Directly on launch, the game will introduce a season pass with timed events and event exclusive content. The game is running on the Flow blockchain, which allows easy on-boarding for users not familiar with blockchain technology.

Players won’t even notice there’s blockchain technology involved. However, once they dive deeper into the game they will be able to claim their wallet and everything they’ve collected. Gamers can keep, sell or trade all their items on an open peer-to-peer marketplace, like for example Viv3 or the Chainmonsters marketplace.
