The Sandbox and Aardman have announced a Shaun the Sheep NFT collection called Shaun the Sheep Heroes, which will be available through The Sandbox marketplace on April 20th at 1 PM UTC. The collection allows players and creators to use six different Shaun the Sheep characters in the gaming virtual world.

They will only sell 831 Shaun the Sheep NFTs on the marketplace. Collectors and gamers can only buy these using the SAND token. Among the characters for sale, there’s one Super Shaun. They will auction that one on OpenSea, with the payment again happening in SAND.

The Super Sheep appeared in episode three of Shaun the Sheep Season 6: Adventures from Mossy Bottom. In this particular episode Shaun plays a superhero that saves the farm from the pigs, but he gets into trouble when the pigs discover his true identity.

Fans of the series will recognize the characters. We can expect: Super Timmy’s Mom (250 copies, 500 SAND) and Super Timmy (50 copies, 2,000 SAND), Super Hazel (500 copies, 200 SAND), the Super Twins (5 copies for 15,000 SAND for #1, and 27 copies for 7,500 SAND for #2) and of course Super Shaun (auction).

“Shaun the Sheep recently celebrated his 25th anniversary and has become a global character brand loved by millions of people around the world. Here at Aardman we are always looking for innovative ways to reach our audiences and tell engaging stories, so we are excited to work with a platform that empowers its users to craft their own virtual worlds and create unique adventures like The Sandbox. We are very proud to not only be the first Sheep to enter the metaverse but also one of the first licensed characters!”

What is The Sandbox?

The Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently in development. The virtual world of The Sandbox consists out of lands, and voxels fill up each of those lands. Visually it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have this Lego-inspired look to them. However, players are able to buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, extensions of actual webshops, a space for social gatherings, and so on.

The Sandbox is providing free tools for developers, gamers and content creators. Creators can use VoxEdit to make objects. In addition the Game Maker allows users to create interactivity on their virtual land. The Sandbox will also create a meta gaming experience. Players can for example do daily quests or weekly quests for their guild. This will earn players SAND, which they can sell or use to buy in-game items or virtual land.

Over the past twelve months The Sandbox has been setting up all kinds of partnerships. Think about Care BearsThe Smurfs and Atari. In addition they’ve created a game fund to stimulate developers to create unique games within The Sandbox. Hack The TaoMushroom ManiaPlanet Rift and Dethrone are some of these indie games.

The Sandbox recently opened its own marketplace, giving creators the ability to sell their NFTs to fans, gamers, collectors and builders. They plan to release a full alpha version of their game in Q2 2021. This early version will feature a social hub and portals to a wide variety of custom games.
