Sky Mavis is working to create a fiat on-ramp for their game Axie Infinity, which runs on their custom sidechain Ronin. The idea is that gamers will be able to buy Axie Infinity NFTs without ever having to buy crypto themselves. It seems like that Sky Mavis is looking at a creditcard or payment processor service, like Paypal. Details have not been revealed yet.

Despite not revealing an estimated time of arrival, Axie Infinity did drop some hints in their tweet. They wrote ‘We have started working with a fiat onramp’, which means that the implementation is already in progress. It’s also important to note that Sky Mavis is planning the great Axie migration from Ethereum to Ronin soon.

Axie Infinity is setting itself up for mass adoption. The game allows players to earn cryptocurrencies. They have regular crypto rewards during their competitive seasons, while every gamer is able to earn Small Love Potions through gameplay. Other players need these SLP tokens to breed Axies, and therefore they have actual value. At the time of writing one SLP token is worth $0,055.

Free starter Axies also coming soon

Sky Mavis is also getting closer to finalizing the design of their free starter Axies. In a newsletter Sky Mavis revealed that archetypes and talents for the different classes have been further define. In addition players will be able to upgrade body parts. Soon players will be able to start playing Axie Infinity without the need to first buy three Axies.

These starter Axies won’t have a major impact on the game’s economy, as they will be limited in their usability and probably can’t fully dive into the play-to-earn economy. Sky Mavis wants players to acquire their own Axies at some point, and really form a bond. Levelling up body parts is one way of establishing that connection.

Axie Infinity roadmap

Axie Infinity will add a whole lot more features to their game in the coming months. An improved version of their battle mode is just one of many additions in the pipeline. Land gameplay, also known as Project K, is probably one of the most anticipated features. This will pitch kingdoms against each other in competitive gameplay.

In an effort to make it easier to get started playing Axie Infinity, Sky Mavis will introduce soulbound Axies. These are free game characters that aren’t eligible for play-to-earn mechanics, or perhaps ‘a very very small amount’. The idea is that players can then step over to paid characters to start earning from the game.

At the same time the developers are migrating the entire Axie ecosystem from Ethereum to their own Ronin sidechain. Right now land and items are already available on Ronin, while Axies themselves still need to move over. Also the entire game’s economy and its AXS governance token will launch soon, together with a major upgrade of marketplace.

What is Axie Infinity?

Axie Infinity is a tactical battle game in which two players fight each other using a team of Axies. These little balls of joy are from Lunacia, and they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Their characteristics influence which moves they are capable of performing. They can be damage dealers, healers, or bad ass tanks.

It is the battle system that makes Axie Infinity stand out. Axies will take turn to fight in a 3v3 battle. The Axies fight to win the victory. At the same time players need to be a real strategists. They for example need to wisely choose appropriate Axies for their team, placing them at the tactical positions.

Axie Infinity has a strong play-to-earn system. Gamers earn Small Love Potions (SLP) by winning matches. These can be used inside the game’s economy or sold to other players who are in need of some more. Soon they will introduce land gameplay, their AXS governance token and a lot more. Axie Infinity is becoming more than just a battle game.
