Axie Infinity Making Progress on Starter Axies

Sky Mavis is getting closer to finalizing the design of their free starter Axies for the strategy game Axie Infinity. In their latest newsletter Sky Mavis revealed that archetypes and talents for the different classes have been further define. In addition players will be able to upgrade body parts. Soon players will be able to start playing Axie Infinity without the need to first buy three Axies.

These starter Axies won’t have a major impact on the game’s economy, as they will be limited in their usability and probably can’t fully dive into the play-to-earn economy. Sky Mavis wants players to acquire their own Axies at some point, and really form a bond. Levelling up body parts is one way of establishing that connection. “Vertical progression will be key to taking your connection with your Axies to the next level”, they wrote in their newsletter.

Axie Infinity moved over to their very own Ronin sidechain last month. Most players have now moved their items and lands from Loom to the Ronin sidechain. Sky Mavis allows users to move ETH from Ethereum to Ronin, and currently Ronin already has more than 1 million dollar in ETH stored on its platform.

Now it’s waiting for Axie Infinity to bring over the Axies from Ethereum to Ronin. However, there are more than 100.000 critters that need to move over, so that takes some careful planning. Without revealing too much about their plans, Sky Mavis said that they have completed the initial design for the Great Axie Migration.

Axie Infinity roadmap

Axie Infinity will add a whole lot more features to their game in the coming months. An improved version of their battle mode is just one of many additions in the pipeline. Land gameplay, also known as Project K, is probably one of the most anticipated features. This will pitch kingdoms against each other in competitive gameplay.

In an effort to make it easier to get started playing Axie Infinity, Sky Mavis will introduce soulbound Axies. These are free game characters that aren’t eligible for play-to-earn mechanics, or perhaps ‘a very very small amount’. The idea is that players can then step over to paid characters to start earning from the game.

At the same time the developers are migrating the entire Axie ecosystem from Ethereum to their own Ronin sidechain. Right now land and items are already available on Ronin, while Axies themselves still need to move over. Also the entire game’s economy and its AXS governance token will launch soon, together with a major upgrade of marketplace.

What is Axie Infinity?

Axie Infinity is a tactical battle game in which two players fight each other using a team of Axies. These little balls of joy are from Lunacia, and they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Their characteristics influence which moves they are capable of performing. They can be damage dealers, healers, or bad ass tanks.

It is the battle system that makes Axie Infinity stand out. Axies will take turn to fight in a 3v3 battle. The Axies fight to win the victory. At the same time players need to be a real strategists. They for example need to wisely choose appropriate Axies for their team, placing them at the tactical positions.

Axie Infinity has a strong play-to-earn system. Gamers earn Small Love Potions (SLP) by winning matches. These can be used inside the game’s economy or sold to other players who are in need of some more. Soon they will introduce land gameplay, their AXS governance token and a lot more. Axie Infinity is becoming more than just a battle game.
