Financial Injection to Bring Sorare to Mobile Devices

sorare 50 million investment

The next big move for fantasy football game Sorare is to bring their platform to mobile devices. They have raised $50 million in funding through venture capital firm Benchmark, with the support of famous footballers like Antoine Griezmann, Rio Ferdinand, and Oliver Bierhoff.

Sorare has seen a strong influx of players in recent months, accelerated by the interest of famous investors like Gary Vaynerchuck. They will use the investment to expand their team, onboard the biggest football leagues in the world, and to create a mobile app.

At the moment Sorare is only available through a web browser, both on desktop and on mobile devices. According to data from DappRadar 963 users have made transactions within the Sorare ecosystem in the past week. This resulted a 3.8 million dollars in volume, which is a tremendous increase of 239% compared with the same period before.

The interest in Sorare isn’t only peaking because of the investment. Sports collectibles have been hot commodities on the blockchain since NBA Top Shot has taken the world by storm. Yesterday Dapper Labs couldn’t battle the bots, and decided to postpone their new drop of basketball moments. A couple of days ago one NBA Top Shot moment sold for $208.000.

What is Sorare?

Sorare is a fantasy football game powered by blockchain technology. The project also has support from game publisher Ubisoft through the company’s entrepreneurs lab. The fantasy football game is enjoying lots of hype in recent months. Consistently the game is among the most popular applications on the Ethereum blockchain. In addition the company received a four million dollar investment to push the game forward, while signing FC Barcelona star Pique as a spokesperson and adding Real Madrid to the game.

Blockchain technology introduces actual scarcity to digital cards, so these cards have a limited supply. Players can use the cards they’ve bought to create a fantasy team. Each card represents a real player. Based on the performance of that player on the actual pitch, the card holders will earn points. Every week the teams with the most points will earn new cards as a reward. The cheapest cards generally sell for a couple of dollars, while the most wanted ones go for well over a thousand dollars a piece. Join the game!
