Sky Mavis is giving away 10 thousand AXS tokens to the Top 200 of the newly launched 15th Axie Infinity competitive season. With a token price of $1.24 at the time of writing, that’s more than 12 thousand dollars. The number one player will earn 500 AXS, while the 200th place earns 27.5 AXS.
This is the second time Axie Infinity is giving away their AXS governance token as a gameplay reward. The token gives players voting rights, but also earns them a share of all transaction fees within the Axie Infinity universe.
The AXS token launched in November for $0.12. Since then the price has only gone up, pushed by new developments within the Axie Infinity ecosystem. Last week Sky Mavis launched Ronin, their own private sidechain tailored to Axie Infinity.
The competitive season lasts one month. Axie Infinity is available on iOS, Android and through the Mavis Hub on PC.
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a tactical battle game in which two players fight each other using a team of Axies. These little balls of joy are from Lunacia, and they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Their characteristics influence which moves they are capable of performing. They can be damage dealers, healers, or bad ass tanks.
There are more than 500 Axie’s body parts. Axies’ body and parts are classified into classes including Beast, Plant, Bug, Bird, Reptile and Aquatic, and more in future updates. Moreover, the parts also come with four levels of rarity, which are Common, Rare, Ultra Rare, Legendary.
It is the battle system that makes Axie Infinity stand out. Axies will take turn to fight in a 3v3 battle. The Axies fight to win the victory. At the same time players need to be a real strategists. They for example need to wisely choose appropriate Axies for their team, placing them at the tactical positions.
Axie Infinity has a strong play-to-earn system. Gamers earn Small Love Potions (SLP) by winning matches. These can be used inside the game’s economy or sold to other players who are in need of some more. Soon they will introduce land gameplay, their AXS governance token and a lot more. Axie Infinity is becoming more than just a battle game.
