Sky Mavis has announced that Ronin, their in-house developed sidechain for Axie Infinity, has launched its mainnet. Players can now migrate their assets to Ronin using the dashboard, and they will receive a limited edition land item. The marketplace for land and items on Ronin will open up on Tuesday at the earliest.
The limited edition land item is only available to those who migrate before February 25th. In order to migrate, players need to create a Ronin wallet. This wallet then needs to be attached to the dashboard, after which transferring is possible.
Ronin is a custom sidechain tailored to the needs to Axie Infinity and its community. The game makes sure that breeding Axies, claiming Small Love Potions and trading items can happen without the extreme gas fees on the Ethereum blockchain.
The Ronin sidechain is specifically made for Axie Infinity. It supports for example the ERC-721 digital pets, land gameplay, items, small love potions and the AXS governance tokens. The sidechain solution supports the entire ecosystem. All gameplay systems now work on the same platform, setting Axie Infinity up for growth towards a more mainstream audience.
The Ronin sidechain is a Byzantine Fault Tolerant proof of authority (POA) network that’s operated by validators. Sky Mavis appoints these validators themselves. Validators approve deposits and transfers of Axie assets to and from the Ronin sidechain. Among the first validators are Ubisoft, crypto exchange Binance, data website Nonfungible, gaming company Animoca Brands, data website DappRadar, and Axie familiar Sparq.
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a tactical battle game in which two players fight each other using a team of Axies. These little balls of joy are from Lunacia, and they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Their characteristics influence which moves they are capable of performing. They can be damage dealers, healers, or bad ass tanks.
