Liverpool FC Added to Sorare Fantasy Football

The fantasy football game Sorare has signed a partnership with the English champions of Liverpool FC. Collectors and players can now bid on first edition cards of players from the current champions of the English Premier League. Bidding starts at 5 EUR per bundle, but will likely increase based on collectability and in-game usage.

Similar to the players from Real Madrid, the Sorare cards from Liverpool FC can only be obtained through bundle sales. As soon as the first bundles have been sold, secondary market trading for individual cards can take place.

Each bundle contains five different player cards. One of the more exciting bundles contains players like for example Trent Alexander-Arnold, Divock Origri, Georginio Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah. Most cards are red-colored, which is the rare quality. The blue ones are super rare, and allow gamers to play the fantasy football game at higher levels with bigger rewards.

Player of the Year Cards

Last week Sorare announced a new series of cards, the Player of the Year 2020 collection. These are 50 cards of 25 players, all selected based on their in-game performance or their cult status within the community. Hans Vanaken is for example a cult player within the Sorare community.

However, these aren’t the first limited edition cards. In October Sorare worked together with Opensea to launch a series of limited edition cards with an artistic touch. They auctioned 27 cards with prices between 0.2 to 1,5 ETH.

What is Sorare?

Sorare is a fantasy football game powered by blockchain technology. The project also has support from game publisher Ubisoft through the company’s entrepreneurs lab. The fantasy football game is enjoying lots of hype in recent months. Consistently the game is among the most popular applications on the Ethereum blockchain. In addition the company received a four million dollar investment to push the game forward, while signing FC Barcelona star Pique as a spokesperson and adding Real Madrid to the game.

Blockchain technology introduces actual scarcity to digital cards, so these cards have a limited supply. Players can use the cards they’ve bought to create a fantasy team. Each card represents a real player. Based on the performance of that player on the actual pitch, the card holders will earn points. Every week the teams with the most points will earn new cards as a reward. The cheapest cards generally sell for a couple of dollars, while the most wanted ones go for well over a thousand dollars a piece. Join the game!
