A group of investors led by Delphi Digital has raised $860.000 to scale up the development of the tactical battle game Axie Infinity. Alongside Delphi Digital companies like Three Arrows Capital, Hashed, Nansen and Animoca Brands joined the round. All investors will receive the game’s governance token AXS.
“The capital will help us scale the team so we can better deliver on the gameplay and feature updates you’re all patiently waiting for”, the Axie Infinity team wrote on Twitter. They are currently working on the implementation of the AXS ecosystem and the introduction of ‘land gameplay’.
AXS, pronounced Access, was announced a few weeks ago. It’s the governance token that will give token holders voting rights and the ability to stake and claim rewards. In addition AXS will be one of the rewards in the Axie Infinity battles. On top of that land gameplay will introduce more monster battles and mechanics for resource gathering and item creation.
The new game mode for Axie Infinity will launch in early 2021. Players own pieces of land where they can farm and earn governance tokens. This is basically a gamified version of yield farming, a system seen in decentralized finance.
Keeping it fair
Axie Infinity provides different kinds of financial incentives to play the game. Gamers can earn and sell Small Love Potions, they can invest in rare Axies or breed Axies and sell those on the open market. With AXS new economic systems get introduced into Lunacia as well. When there’s money to be made, people will try to play the system. Sky Mavis is acting with an iron fist, and all cheaters will be banned.
“One person playing on five to six accounts is unacceptable”, co-founder Aleksander Larsen explained to Play to Earn. The company will temporarily flag the Axies owned by cheaters as banned from their game. For the moment these Axies will only be banned temporarily. Sky Mavis doesn’t provide a timeline nor a clear rule, but in the end the rules are simple: do not cheat.
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a tactical battle game in which two players fight each other using a team of cute creatures called Axies. These little weird balls of joy live in a world called Lunacia, and they come in all kinds of shapes in sizes. Their characteristics influence which moves they are capable of performing. They can be damage dealers, healers, or bad ass tanks.
Axies are deadly cute, that is an undeniable truth. But Axies are not only just cute, their appearance are almost unique. It is difficult to find two look-alike Axies since their body parts have various forms and shapes. There are more than 500 Axie’s body parts. Axies’ body and parts are classified into classes including Beast, Plant, Bug, Bird, Reptile and Aquatic, and more in future release. Moreover, the parts also come with four levels of rarity, which are Common, Rare, Ultra Rare, Legendary.
It is the battle system that makes Axie Infinity stand out. Axies will take turn to fight in a 3v3 battle. To claim the victory, players need to be real strategists: choosing appropriate Axies and putting them in tactical positions.
