Any game developers will be able to use assets from Chainmonsters in their own games, game studio B-Side Games stated in a conversation with Play to Earn. Studio boss Max Weber sees interoperability as a key feature of blockchain technology, and wants to embrace the concept as much as possible. Chainmonsters will be a launch game for Flow, the upcoming entertainment blockchain by Dapper Labs.

Weber hasn’t publicly announced their Terms of Use yet, but he stated that anybody will be allowed to use blockchain assets from Chainmonsters and implement them into their own game. This will include the graphics, but also the blockchain meta data. B-Side Games will even provide APIs to make this type of interoperability easier. “In the end it’s a promotion for our game as well”, he reasons.

Chainmonsters is a massively multiplayer online role playing game inspired by classic games like The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon. However, players will be competing against each other. Every player is an agent working for a corporation. There’s a mysterious disease that makes all creatures more aggressive, and there’s a mysterious crystal in the middle of the world. Guess who needs to find out? But can the corporation be trusted? Who knows…

Chainmonsters and Flow

Using the Flow blockchain, Chainmonsters will feature a player-driven economy and an in-game marketplace. However, players won’t need any knowledge about blockchain technology. When a new player starts playing the game, everything will look like a traditional onboarding mechanism. However, in the background everything they do inside the game world is stored on the blockchain. The game will create a temporarily blockchain account, and gamers will be able to claim their full Flow account whenever they want. Then they can start trading their in-game items outside the game.

Chainmonsters will be a free-to-play game when it launches. Game studio B-side Games will use a season pass business model to make money. The season pass is the main way for B-Side Games to monetize their game. The studio emphasized ithat Chainmonsters will not be pay-to-win game. However, by getting the season pass players get access to exclusive items that are only available for a limited time.
